How To Create Income From A Blog
Creating passive income is a popular topic among people these days. It's all over social media with many people offering fantastical ideas on what you should be doing, how much you should be investing, and how you can buy their programs to make money passively through blogs and other methods.
Passive income is the money you earn from things you're not involved in the day-to-day. It means you can make money while not investing time daily and focusing on your other work or interests. Sounds great, right?
We'll go over a real way to start ablog that generates passive income in this post. Of course, how much income it generates will depend on the blog niche you pick, how much initial time you invest, and how hands-off you want to be.
Create a Blog
Your first step will be creating an actual blog: now, this does not involve installing and setting up the blog, making it look nice, and all the standard things you would expect.
Pick a familiar and easy to work with blog software like WordPress so that you can easily install SEO tools, marketing tools, and anything else easily and freely.
The most important part at this stage though is selecting a blog niche that can make money, how to choose that is a post by itself. However, the basic idea is, can the blog make money, and are other people making money on blogs in the same niche?
You won't be making a lot of money on blogs about your daily life and your interest in trains, but you can make money in a blog about how to save money in frugal ways. Many broad areas can make money, such as fashion, fitness, health, anything that is broad and many people want help with.
Monetize Your Blog
Once you have got a blog niche and an actual blog, you need to start thinking about how you're going to make money from it. Of course, anything that requires your daily attention isn't ideal but could still be worthwhile, and you may be able to assign the work to a virtual assistant.
Make sure that the monetization method you're picking suits your blog; some ads or products could work in multiple categories. However, don't have widely different products that don't match your blog niche, otherwise, your traffic won't convert well, and you won't make much money.
Also, consider utilizing as many methods as is reasonable on your blog. If you can only use one, that's fine, but if you can combine multiple ways of making even better money.
The top monetization options that can be passive income earners are:
Affiliate Marketing
Sign up for an affiliate marketing marketplace that gives you access to a vast range of products. You'll want to investigate which marketplace offers the types of products or services that match your blog.
It will be optimal if the marketplace has plugins available for your blog that automatically inserts your affiliate links in any posts you include. This will be a huge time saver and remove errors.
Affiliate Marketing for passive incoming is probably the easiest and least time-consuming passive income option available. Your only goal will be to drive traffic to your blog so that you can redirect people to other sites to make purchases.
Banner Advertisements
If you can build your blog big enough, you can investigate any businesses that may want to buy advertising on the blog through simple banner ads. However, it's going to be unlikely you can offer this due to lack of traffic at the very start.
Sell Products
Having a store on your site for people to buy items is another great option to start right away. Then, you'll either need to create things to sell, buy a supply of things to sell, or use some type of dropshipping service to supply the products.
Digital Products
Using your blog as a free resource to provide information allows you to draw in traffic interested in that topic, then you want to provide a paid digital product that you can up-sell people on. So let's say you have a blog on weight loss, your posts provide recipes, tips on how to lose weight, but then you have an ebook that offers a complete 16-week plan on how to lose the maximum weight possible using a combination of intermittent fasting and weight training.
You can even provide multiple digital products. So it's just limited by what you can create or get someone to create for you.
Real Products
Selling real products is just as easy as digital and, in some cases, easier. For example, let's say you have a pet blog that gives you tips on training and healthy eating, you can link in per training products, food, or anything else you can find via a dropshipping website with Shopify. It's almost totally automated once you set it up.
Sell Courses
Bring people in through free blogs, using the health blog idea again. Instead of offering an ebook, consideroffering a video course that takes people through a 16-week fitness training course to get them on track to a fantastic body. Anything you can teach, or find somebody else to teach, can be used in a course.
It could be a video course or an online members-only website that people pay to join and access the training materials.
Automation and Outsourcing
Because you don't want this to be your main job or something that takes up hours a day, you need to look at how to automate everything, including outsourcing the writing and potentially administration of the blog.
Automation
I suggested using WordPress because there are so many plugins available for it that will automate almost everything about it. The most important part of the automation process with your blog will be ensuring that all of your monetization options get included with all the posted articles.
So instead of manually adding links and sections for ads, you want to find good plugins that will include all of your affiliate links, ads, and banners for the products that you're selling. Often affiliate marketplaces have their plugins, or WordPress has a ton of plugins available, just search through them and decide which works best for your blog.
Outsourcing
You've got two primary jobs that can be outsourced for your blog, and the most important will be article writing; the second somewhat optional part will be having a virtual assistant to run the actual blog.
Outsourcing Articles
Because this is a hands-off blog, you need somebody else to be writing articles for you. Websites like Fiverr or Upwork provide a huge range of writers that can write on almost any topic you want. You can buy in bulk from one or more people, or you can get individual articles written and delivered.
If you get a bulk order, you can load the articles up and just schedule them to be released one at a time, meaning you're pretty hands-off except for the initial order of articles and posting.
Virtual Assistant
If you want to take it a step further, hire a virtual assistant, whom you can also find on Fiverr or Upwork to handle the entire process. Have them research good article topics from other blogs, they then request the articles get written, and then they get them posted on the site when they've been reviewed.
As long as you trust your virtual assistant and they don't disappear on you, the entire process becomes automated. You don't need to worry about doing anything aside from reviewing revenue and perhaps keeping an eye on the quality of posts going up sometimes.
Conclusion
Set up your blog, get it monetized, hire a virtual assistant to find article writers, who can then create all your content for you. You will need to keep an eye on things and also ensure your blog doesn't stop getting updated because your virtual assistant disappeared.
If you're trying to keep costs down at the start, then don't get a virtual assistant straight away. Instead, buy articles in bulk from one or many article articles, then review and schedule them to be released over a month or more.
It becomes a very automated system, and if you set it up well in the first place should be making money for you, that just increases as you add more articles to the blog. Keep an eye on revenue changes, especially if things start stopping down, you'll need to find and fix any issues quickly.
