Vimeo

As one of the first websites to stream high-definition videos, Vimeo is a good alternative to YouTube. In addition to a massive library and regularly updated staff picks, Vimeo hosts movies and TV shows.

TED

TED has a significant presence on YouTube, of course, but its own website makes it easier to browse the catalog. There are thousands of talks on a wide range of topics, including entrepreneurial business, technology and design, science, and global issues.

The Open Video Project

The Open Video Project is primarily aimed at researchers, so its videos tend to be educational or academic in nature. Examples include NASA archival footage, lectures and historical documentaries. You can narrow your search to black and white or silent videos, among other criteria.
